Frequently Asked Questions
+ What is laser hair removal?
Laser Hair Removal is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure used to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal your practitioner will use a small hand piece to deliver an intense, but gentle burst of energy onto the areas being treated. The pigment in the hair absorbs the energy and destroys the hair in the follicle.
+ Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?
With the advent of new technology, those who were once considered poor candidates for laser hair removal, such as darker skin tones, can now enjoy successful treatments. The results still work
best for certain hair and skin types, but effective treatments have become available to everyone.
If you’ve been considered a poor or “iffy” candidate for hair removal in the past, schedule a complimentary consultation with us to discuss your options. Our technology is the most advanced in the area!
+ How do I prepare for my laser hair treatment?
- Do not pluck, tweeze, use a depilatory or have electrolysis down in the area you wish to have treated 6 weeks prior to treatment. Shaving or trimming the hair is ok.
- Hair should be shaved 48-72 hours prior to treatment.
- No tanning (self-tanner, tanning bed, spray tan, etc.) for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Works best on clean/dry skin. Please remove any make-up, lotion, body oil, perfume and jewelry prior to your appointment.
+ Why is laser a better option over electrolysis?
With electrolysis, each hair is individually destroyed one follicle at a time, is time consuming, costly and has the potential for scarring. A laser has a much greater coverage area, penetrates several hair follicles with each pulse and has temporary or zero damage to the skin’s surface. While electrolysis can eliminate fine and light hairs, the results of a laser treatment are safer, faster, less painful and the most economical solution for unwanted hair growth.
+ How long do Candela's laser hair removal treatments take and how many treatments will I require?
The amount of treatments and times vary depending on your specific needs. Most patients see up to an 80% reduction of hair in as little as 3 treatments, but multiple treatments are needed to
achieve the full hair removal effect. Hair growth is reduced after each treatment and the number of treatments required will be based on your hair color and type, body area, the amount of
hair and skin tone. Schedule a complimentary consultation today to discuss your customized treatment plan.
+ Are laser hair removal treatments painful?
Some patients may feel slight discomfort, which has been compared to snapping a rubber band against the skin. Your skin may be slightly red immediately following the procedure. This
typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours after the procedure.
Candela’s Laser Hair Removal treatments use a patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™), which prepares the skin for treatment by spraying the upper layer with a cooling burst of cryogen in adjustable durations—milliseconds before the laser pulse. DCD helps ensure that the treatments are as comfortable as they are effective.
